Actalin is dietary supplement intended to promote healthy thyroid activity. It was developed by, holistic medical physician, Dr. David Brownstein and is one of a number of products marketed by Medix Select. Brownstein appears to be an important member of the company’s research team, and several other medical professionals are listed on their “About Us” page. At first blush this would appear to suggest the company’s products should be pretty good, but although the doctors are good at spouting their personal options, the Medix Select website does not provide any links to scientific studies offering cold, hard facts.

The Actalin sales page states the majority of American citizens have thyroid glands that have “sub-optimal” function. If this is true the pills could have the potential to improve the lives of a lot of people, but it’s a big “if”. We were unable to find any scientific evidence that suggests the problem is so widespread.

What the Manufacturer Says the Product Will Do

Customers are told the pills offer several benefits:

  • Supports thyroid function
  • Supports adrenal health
  • Supports energy metabolism
  • Supports a healthy circulation
  • Supports the immune system
  • Fights free radicals

The thyroid gland is a major player in regulating the metabolism. When its function is impaired the metabolism may slow. This could cause weight gain, feeling of listlessness, and many other health problems. So the product has theoretical value.

How to Use Actalin

The Medix Select website does not provide any information about how the product should be used.

Actalin Ingredients

The Ingredients Used in Actalin

Two capsules contains

  • Riboflavin (5mg)
  • Niacin (30mg)
  • Vitamin A (2500 IU)
  • Vitamin D (300 IU)
  • Magnesium (15mg)
  • Iodine (200mcg)
  • Zinc (5mg)
  • Selenium (30mcg)
  • Copper (0.1mg)
  • Manganese (2mg)
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (50mg)
  • L-Tyrosine (300mg)

The rest of the ingredients (540mg) are contained in a proprietary blend:

  • Forskohlii Root Extract
  • Guggul Gum Resin Extract
  • Ashwagandha Root Extract
  • Adrenal Glandular Bovine Powder

Actalin Blend Viability

A number of the vitamins and minerals present in the formulation are known to be important for healthy thyroid function. As is the amino acid L-Tyrosine, and iodine is often considered particularly important.

Guggul is also believed to have a positive effect on thyroid health. Forskohlii is unlikely to directly support efficient glandular activity, but it may promote a healthy metabolism by increasing the availability of cyclic AMP (cAMP)

Adrenal glandular bovine powder provides hydrocortisone, which may help improve the memory and reduce feelings of stress. It is unlikely to directly assist thyroid function.

Many of the ingredients used in the formulation do appear to have merit, but a formulation such as this is only likely to be of benefit to people who have existing problems with their thyroid gland, be it because of bad diet, unfortunate genetics, or disease.

Is Actalin Safe to Use?

The possibility of side effects is not mentioned, but the presence of adrenal glandular bovine powder is an issue because it’s obtained from the glands of dead cattle. It’s a controversial ingredient because many people fear it’s use entails the risk of becoming infected with mad cow disease. An article published on the Healthline website raises further concerns by stating the ingredient may interfere with normal adrenal gland function and stating its use should be avoided.

Actalin Pricing and Distribution

Medix Select appears to restrict their marketing activities to their official website. If you want to buy one of their products it is the only place to go and a 30-day supply of Actalin will set you back $39.95. That’s roughly around £32.78.

Medix Select appears to be very keen to get site visitors to sign-up for their auto ship program, so the sales page defaults to the option of buying a three month supply, via auto ship, and paying $79.90. Although this is a 33% saving per bottle of pills, the pills will keep on coming until the agreement is stopped and customers’cards will be charged accordingly. These kind of agreements result in ongoing expense and can be difficult to cancel. A number of complaints on the BBB website suggest this is likely to be the case with Medix Select.

Actalin Returns and Guarantee

The manufacturer states they will accept returns of unused product that was purchased via their smart ship program, but there does not appear to be a money back guarantee.

Actalin Customer Reviews

The product sales page contains several reviews that suggest the pills do what they are intended to do, but feedback obtained via such a biased source is not to be relied upon.

Our Verdict On Actalin

What we are looking at here is a product that is designed to improve thyroid health and is being marketed in a way that suggests most people are likely to need it. Although the blend of ingredients used in the pills may be capable of supporting improved thyroid health, the truth of the matter is a lot of people who purchase the product may not need it at all. Even those who do may want to think twice about using a product that contains Adrenal Glandular Bovine Powder because its presence brings with it a certain amount of concern.
